The Art Behind Every Piece

Step Three: Adding Character with Glazing

Once shaped, each piece dries and is carefully sanded before the glazing process begins. Glazing is where personality shines – colors, textures, and finishes bring depth and warmth to the pottery. I mix my own glazes, experimenting with natural hues inspired by the landscape. Watching a kiln transform these colors is magic every time, as no two firings are ever alike.

Step Four: Kiln Fire – Bringing the Vision to Life
Once glazed, each piece goes into the kiln for a high-temperature firing that brings out the vibrant colors and strengthens the clay. This step is both exciting and nerve-wracking, as you never quite know how the final piece will look until it emerges from the kiln. Opening the kiln is like unwrapping a present – every time is a little different, but always special.

A Piece with Heart

Finally, each piece is checked for quality and finished with a small engraved flower, a little reminder that this piece was made by one person with care and attention. Every mug, bowl, or vase that comes out of this studio is a small piece of my heart, crafted to bring joy to everyday moments. Thank you for supporting small makers and sharing in the beauty of handmade artistry.

Welcome to my small pottery studio, where each piece is crafted with care, patience, and a love for earthy beauty. Here, it’s not about mass production – it’s about hand-shaping ideas into something tangible and lasting. Each mug, bowl, and vase carries a story, created in a one-person studio where everything is as personal as it gets.

Step One: Inspiration from Nature and Everyday Life
Every piece starts as an idea, often sparked by something simple: a morning walk, a shell found on the shore, or even the texture of an old tree. These moments inspire shapes, colors, and patterns that evolve as I work. The joy of working solo means I can follow these ideas wherever they lead, giving each piece its own unique spark.

Step Two: Hands in Clay

With clay in hand, I feel the energy and possibility of each piece. This stage is meditative and grounding, a dance between shaping and refining. Pottery has a life of its own, and I’m here to guide, but never force it. I pinch, pull, and smooth, adjusting until the piece feels just right. Every curve and line reflects hours of focused attention, making each item truly one-of-a-kind.
